Every parent knows about those nights when you tuck your little one into bed, settle down with a mug of coffee and a good book finally, only to hear the pitter patter of little feet as they run back into the living room for that last goodnight kiss. Every parent knows that what ensues after is a fight to get him or her to go back to bed and to stay in bed, no matter how exhausted they are. Many parents have started using melatonin for kids as a sleep aid, because it is said to be safe, all natural, and works well.

Melatonin is key to regulating the body’s internal clock, so giving a dose of melatonin before bedtime is said to be a great way to help you child get the sleep that they need to be productive and feel good the next day. Melatonin is a cheap fix for parents who are desperate for their children to get a good night’s rest, so that they are able to function well the next day in school as well at home.

The thing that worries many parent’s the most is how much Melatonin is too much when it comes to their children. The problem is that no one actually knows the long-term effects of melatonin, as there have been very few studies conducted on the product. It is supposed to increase the maturation process, so the rumors say, but there is no hard evidence of that either.

It is considered safe to give your child this product on a short-term basis, but not long term as if your child is having that much problem sleeping, it is probably best to consult your doctor to see if there is an underlying condition that needs to be taken care of.

These are just a few things that parents need to know about Melatonin before they consider giving it to their children as a sleep aid. It is considered a safe product and is all-natural, however, it is best to consult their doctor before giving them any of the product at all.
